Super Mario (Model)

2 02 2011

From: Super Mario (Design)

Ok, I managed to finish the model of Super Mario (30 cm tall). I took a little longer than expected, since no size so hard it was to build the hands.

The following photos show the final result.

The following videos show how to put together all the parts to complete the papercraft model.

The model I serve as the basis for a 150cm tall. I expected a lot of work.

Lego Man (Repair legs)

31 01 2011

From: Lego Man (Model)

The support legs to the hips, the effort did not tolerate for long time. The joints are very weak and broke.

These are two rolls of cardboard that will replace the original carriers, providing the strongest legs.

These are the two legs repaired.

In the following video, I show how new supports are developed and how they were placed in each leg and finish.

Another is .. Like New!

Hello Kitty (Big Model – Piñata)

28 12 2010

From post: Hello Kitty (Model)

This is another Hello Kitty papercraft model, but on a scale of 150 cm (58.5 inches).

This photograph shows the model with the small model of Hello Kitty

In my country (Guatemala), these papercraft models are known as piñatas. In this case, was produced to celebrate the second birthday of my daughter.

Is made with a wire frame that provides rigidity to the model.

Other pictures…

The wire frame is made of galvanized wire size 16 (1.63mm)

The following video shows how it formed the wire frame …

To achieve the ratio of 150 cm model, I used the 29 cm model reference. each section was measured and multiplied by a factor to determine which is the measure proportional to the 150 cm tall.

  • section scale = section measured x 150 / 29

In the case of the angles between each leg Metasequoia export the model to Autocad DXF file, to view and print various views of the model and be able to appreciate more accurately the different angles.

The following PDF file contains different views of the model, they also can be used to scale measurements.

With the completed wire frame, it’s time to cover every segment of the surface withsheets of paper, but first we must develop glue made from flour, as shown in thefollowing video. For this case will be that of a measure of flour for five measures of water …

The volume of base paper is made to cover the entire surface, as shown in the following video …

A little help …

Some pictures …

Well, it’s time to decorate the outside of the model.  In the video below shows the different parts that were decorated with colored paper:

Ok, it’s party time, all children and some adults to break the piñata, to go all the sweets that are inside …

Bye piñata.. 😦

Well, some points to improve …

  • The wire used in large parts must be of the highest caliber, to prevent the model is deformed when the paper dries and retract.
  • The paper should not carry much glue so it does not expand much and thus did not retract as it dries.
  • The support of the model must be stronger, to prevent bursting when the piñata is in motion. The support used was 3 wires, so I think it is better than double to tolerate higher tensile forces.

OK, it’s time to get down to work and build our papercraft model of 29 cm tall.

The following video shows step by step how you can build the papercraft model of Hello Kitty to completion.

Here are some photos showing the finished papercraft model:

What will be the next step? Surprise!

To be continued…

Now let’s play .. 🙂

Dual Twister Ramp (Model)

25 11 2010

From post: Dual Twister Ramp (Design)

Based on the final design of the Dual Twister Ramp (DTR), held in Metasequoia, make a template (Pepakura) to build a scale model of the ramp (10cm high).

This is template in pdf forma (Black and Color)t:

This is the format version PDO: Rampa005x.pdo (Zip file)

The following video shows how they were attached to different parts of the scale model of the DTR:

These are photographs of the scale model of the DTR finish:

The following video shows the scale model of the DTR in action, with two mini balls (balls of paper) running down the ramps in various ways. For the same ramp and separate ramps.

Ok, the next step … create the real scale model of the DTR (59 cm high).

To be continued…
